Fire department

Preventive security

The task of preventive emergency response is to protect the lives of people and animals as well as the environment and property through preventive measures.

This task was assigned to the city of Hilden as a mandatory task by the NRW Fire Protection, Relief and Disaster Prevention Act (BHKG).

  • Measures and participations in the building permit process

The fire protection department of the city of Hilden is involved in the building permit process for primarily special buildings. In the process, it is checked whether the building project complies with the concerns of preventive and defensive fire protection, such as sufficient escape routes, fire department access routes, implementation of effective firefighting and rescue measures, etc.

Furthermore, the fire protection service of the lower building supervision, citizens, persons responsible for building and architects are available for advice on all questions of preventive fire protection, in particular for building projects and changes of use.

  • Fire prevention inspection

In accordance with the above-mentioned law, the city of Hilden is obliged to carry out fire prevention inspections at regular intervals. This means that in buildings and facilities that are at increased risk of fire or explosion, or in which a large number of people are at risk if a fire breaks out, regular inspections must be carried out with regard to fire prevention measures. These walk-throughs must be repeated at least every 6 years unless a lesser time frame is specified by a special building ordinance. The owner will be notified in writing of the date of the fire inspection. Whether a building is classified as subject to fire inspection can be found, among other things, in Appendix 2 of the Statutes on the Conduct of Fire Inspections.

  • Fire prevention education

The fire department provides fire safety training in kindergartens and schools. The training consists of two parts. In the first part, topics such as.

    • Fire handling
    • How do I call the fire department?
    • What should I do if there is a fire?

    mediated.

The second part is a guided tour of the Hilden fire station.
