150 years of the station
Hilden's railroad station was opened in 1874, heralding a new era for the citizens of our town. Until then, the people of Hilden had to rely on the nearest railroad stations in Düsseldorf Benrath and Solingen Ohligs to transport goods and people. The construction of our own railroad station was not only an architectural advance, but also a decisive step towards the independence and modernization of our community.

Another campaign to mark the anniversary is a painting campaign for children of primary school age. We are looking for creative works of art on the theme of the station. Please submit your self-designed pictures (maximum A4 size) to the information desk in the town hall by November 19. These will then be exhibited in the glass showcases at Hilden station.
Do you like painting in company? Then sign up for the painting event on November 19 at 3 p.m. in the KuKuK room above the city archive, Gerresheimer Str. 20a. The event will be accompanied by art teacher Dorothee Wengenroth and graphic artist and founder of the Düsseldorf History Workshop Thomas Bernhardt.
The coloring pages serve as inspiration and can be downloaded and colored.
The building
The station is an impressive example of late 19th century architecture, designed in a harmonious interplay of classicist and simple forms.
The reception building presents itself with an elongated silhouette and symmetrically arranged, slightly protruding side wings. The main façade, originally brick-faced, has seven window axes, while the protruding corner risalits with their triangular gables dynamically complement the overall appearance. The delicate shade of old rose in the paint is reminiscent of the elegant color scheme of nearby Benrath Palace and enhances the harmonious overall impression.
A striking architectural element is the clock case with its baroque tail gable, which forms an attractive contrast to the clear lines of the building. These stylistic features not only lend the reception building timeless elegance, but also a tangible connection to historical buildings that captivate the observer. The successful combination of simple and ornate elements makes the building an outstanding example of its time.
